About The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Immunology Discovery Department Summary COPD is the third leading cause of death worldwide and, despite its prevalence, the heterogeneity of disease and underlying etiologies remain poorly understood. We are committed to understanding how alterations in the epithelial and stromal compartments of the lung contribute to the risk and severity of COPD. Utilizing cutting-edge experimental and analytical methods, we model and study epithelial and stromal dysfunction in COPD with the ultimate goal to discover novel strategies to restore tissue homeostasis, prevent exacerbations and improve lung function. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site. The Opportunity The intern’s summer project will be focused on the mechanistic study of newly identified COPD targets. One primary objective is to establish and apply complex, human-relevant lung model systems to assess how target modulation influences alveolar epithelial type 2 (AT2) cells and their niche. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June 2026. A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
