Clinical Data Science Summary: The Clinical Data Science (CDS) Intern is responsible for supporting the Data Manager and Clinical Programmer. The intern follows standard policies and procedures for supporting CDS in gathering, analyzing, and reporting clinical data for clinical trials that are conducted in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory requirements. This internship is structured to provide exposure to both functional areas, with the first portion focused on clinical data management activities and the second portion focused on clinical programming and analytical support.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled university student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
  • Experience with programming languages, preferably with Python or R
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • MUST be currently enrolled in a U.S. Undergraduate and/or Graduate Degree Program and not graduating prior to the completion of the Ionis internship.
  • MUST be able to begin internship between 6/8 and 8/14/2026.
  • MUST be able and willing to remain in program through at least 8/14/2026.
  • MUST be able and willing to commit to a minimum 40-hour work week.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Data Manager and Clinical Programmer within the clinical study
  • As directed by the Data Manager, supports data management activities such as database development and data reconciliation.
  • As directed by the Data Manager, drafts study related documents and plans (e.g., specifications for clinical data listings and data reconciliation programs, User Acceptance Testing Plan, Data Transfer Agreement)
  • As directed by the Data Manager, supports ongoing data management activities including creating and distributing clinical study metrics, receipt and reconciliation of external clinical data, QC of programmed clinical data listings.
  • As directed by the Clinical Programmer, works with the programming team to understand clinical programming processes and standards used to support clinical data deliverables.
  • As directed by the Clinical Programmer, assists in the development and evaluation of a model (e.g., machine learning or analytical model) intended to support the Clinical Data Science team’s processes and decision-making.
  • Documents programming workflows, assumptions, and model development details related to the project to support knowledge sharing and future maintenance.
