About The Position

The Department of Cell and Tissue Genomics is seeking a talented and motivated summer intern to drive the development and scale-up of advanced cell culture models for high-throughput single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) based screens. In this role, the candidate will work hands-on with complex in vitro models (organoids, co-cultures), focusing on model development, robust characterization, and establishing protocols for screening applications. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
  • Required Majors: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong practical experience and enthusiasm for molecular and cell biology.
  • Familiarity with methods for model characterization (e.g., microscopy, IF).
  • Prior experience or strong theoretical knowledge of single-cell genomic assays.

  • Hands-on experience with complex in vitro models is highly preferred, including 3D cell culture, organoids, spheroids, or human induced pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize robust organoid and co-culture models for screening applications.
  • Establish and execute protocols for scaling up complex cell culture models to meet high-throughput screening needs.
  • Characterize developed models using molecular and cellular techniques.
  • Generate single cell genomic data.
  • Communicate results effectively through laboratory meetings and a final poster presentation at the end of the summer.
