About The Position

Are you interested in helping shape the future of electric vehicle infrastructure and sustainable campus transportation? If you’re pursuing a degree in sustainability, environmental engineering, urban planning, engineering, economics, or a related field and want to gain experience in sustainability planning and infrastructure strategy, we’d love to have you join our team! We are seeking an intern to help us develop a campus-wide Electric Vehicle (EV) Master Plan that provides a clear, phased, and financially informed path for EV charging deployment. As a member of our team, you’ll contribute to building a structured implementation approach that aligns infrastructure investments with fleet electrification goals, parking demand, utility capacity, and long-term sustainability objectives. You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers and planners who collaborate across facilities, utilities, and sustainability functions to deliver practical, forward-looking solutions. Requirements

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in sustainability, environmental engineering, urban planning, engineering, economics, or a related field
  • Have a passion for sustainable infrastructure, transportation electrification, and advancing practical, data driven climate solutions
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Hold U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL's facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.
  • Requires valid state-of-residence driver’s license in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • Have strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to structure complex information into clear, actionable plans
  • Have familiarity with sustainability concepts, EV infrastructure, or energy systems
  • Have proficiency in Excel or similar tools for scheduling, data organization, and cost analysis
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and can clearly convey technical information
  • Are comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with cross functional teams

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing a multi-year EV charging infrastructure master plan
  • Build implementation schedules and timelines aligned with campus priorities and constraints
  • Support order-of-magnitude cost estimates for EV infrastructure deployment, including equipment, installation, and utility upgrades
  • Compile and analyze data related to fleet electrification, parking demand, and utility capacity
  • Research best practices, standards, and peer institution approaches to EV planning
  • Prepare summary materials, visuals, and briefing documents for leadership and project teams
  • Operate APL Vehicles(service vans/trucks) to travel across campus
