About The Position

Requirements

  • Are working towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
  • Are interested in working with CAD (Solidworks, CREO or other design packages), stress and thermal analysis using finite element or physics-based software (ANSYS, COMSOL), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling and manufacturing processes.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 Scale. Note: When prompted to upload attachments, please include a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
  • Have pursued technical projects and extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.

Nice To Haves

  • Have classroom or professional experience working closely with autonomous vehicles (UxV's), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) or crewed maritime platforms.
  • Have classroom or professional experience with Solidworks, CREO, or other design packages.
  • Have classroom or professional experience performing finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Have classroom or professional experience with MATLAB, Python, C++, OrcaFlex, or related software packages.
  • Possess a current active secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems using a variety of CAD and modeling and design tools.
  • Conduct simulation, analysis and testing of mechanical systems.
  • Prepare for and conduct periodic design reviews, as well as technical reports and other briefing materials for presentation to all levels of staff and Government agencies.
  • Work closely with JHU/APL electrical engineers, fabrication shops, systems engineers, and external vendors.
