About The Position

Swaybox Studios is rewriting the rulebook of visual storytelling. As we collaborate with DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation and Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho on a revolutionary new project, you’ll help bring bold creative visions to life through hands-on artistry and performance. This is your chance to be a part of a production that’s equal parts innovative and unforgettable. We are seeking a detail-driven 1st Assistant Editor to join the editorial team on our current feature film. Working closely with the Editor, this role supports the storytelling process by helping shape scenes, refine performances, and maintain the creative integrity of evolving cuts. At the same time, this position plays a critical role in maintaining the technical foundation of the edit. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in AVID and strong feature experience, with the ability to manage complex workflows, maintain media integrity, and support collaboration across live-action, animation, and VFX teams. This is a hands-on role that balances creative awareness with precision, organization, and editorial discipline.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in feature film editorial, with prior experience as a 1st Assistant Editor
  • Experience on at least two feature films spanning at least two of the following: animation, live-action, or VFX-driven productions
  • Expert-level proficiency in Avid Media Composer, including advanced project setup, media management, relinking, conforming, and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of feature editorial workflows from dailies through final delivery
  • Proven ability to track shots, manage versioning, and maintain accurate editorial databases
  • Experience generating and QC’ing AAFs, EDLs, XMLs, QuickTimes, and other delivery materials
  • Strong technical knowledge of codecs, frame rates, resolutions, color pipelines, and media formats
  • Experience working in shared storage and multi-editor environments
  • Exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple revisions under tight deadlines while maintaining editorial integrity
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and cross-platform workflow integration
  • Experience supporting hybrid workflows
  • Familiarity with sound design prep, music temping, and dialogue organization
  • Experience with ScriptSync, PhraseFind, or similar Avid tools
  • Basic understanding of color workflows and DI prep
  • Familiarity with database or VFX tracking systems (ShotGrid, FileMaker, Airtable, etc.)
  • Experience working in studio review environments with high-level creative stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain editorial workflows within AVID
  • Manage project setup, bin structure, media organization, and version control
  • Ingest, organize, sync, and manage dailies with accurate metadata and labeling
  • Conform, prep, and maintain sequences throughout the editorial lifecycle
  • Coordinate and execute turnovers to all departments in the pipeline
  • Track revisions, implement notes, and maintain clean, organized timelines
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to media, relinking, conforming, and delivery
  • Support the Editor with assemblies, exports, screenings, and studio deliverables as needed
  • Help refine timing, performance beats, and continuity across evolving cuts
  • Maintain project hygiene including archiving, backups, and media integrity
