As an Associate Aviculturist at Discovery Cove, you will maintain husbandry of multiple species of exotic birds in a large free-flight aviary, interact with park guests, and facilitate positive interactions between birds and guests. You will also participate in animal interaction programs, perform daily food prep and feeding, maintain safe and sanitary work areas, work with animals on basic behavior techniques, and assist in medical procedures.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass qualifying swim test and annual swim test competency exam.
  • Ability to complete provided CPR training/certification.
  • Valid driver's License.
  • Ability to provide exceptional guest service.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 6 or more months of related bird keeping experience at a zoological institution.
  • Prior guest/customer service experience preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain husbandry of multiple species of exotic birds in a large free-flight aviary.
  • Interact with park guests and facilitate positive interactions between birds and guests.
  • Participate in animal interaction programs with park guests; i.e. Flamingo Mingle and Animal Trek.
  • Perform daily food prep and feeding of Discovery Cove bird collection.
  • Maintain safe and sanitary work areas and animal environments.
  • Ensure safe work practices and procedures by following all departmental, SeaWorld and SEA policies.
  • Work with animals on basic behavior techniques and behavioral modification.
  • Perform daily observation of animals and report any abnormalities to staff supervisor.
  • Assist in medical procedures and treatments.
  • Maintain exceptional standards of safety and cleanliness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
