About The Position
Under general supervision, the Zookeeper I is responsible for a variety of manual and maintenance duties in the care and proactive husbandry and welfare of exotic and other zoo-managed animals at Niabi Zoo. The incumbent illustrates good teamwork and communication skills, providing and implementing proper nutrition, behavioral and environmental enrichment, and proactive animal husbandry for all animals within the zoo. Responsibilities include maintaining daily recordkeeping, conducting welfare and wellness evaluations, assisting in veterinary medical treatment, and performing general maintenance of animal habitats and zoo grounds. The employee works both within teams and autonomously throughout the day, receiving assignments from the Assistant Director/Curator, which indicate work to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments.
