Zoo Assistant Custodian
About The Position
Under supervision of the Zoo Building and Grounds Custodian the Assistant Zoo Custodian will be responsible for: Assisting in maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of all non-animal areas of the zoo. Monitoring of maintenance supplies, equipment and tools. Keeping maintenance areas neat and orderly. Assisting in animal moves and loading as necessary. Assisting in programs and promotions of the Zoo. Wearing proper designated uniform during regular zoo hours. Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District’s safety program. Performing all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to operate mowers and some machinery and drive vehicles.
- Ability to communicate with customers and staff.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Background and some work experience in custodial building maintenance and grounds keeping.
- Must have ability to operate standard mechanized cleaning equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instruction; prepare facility for meetings and activities in a timely manner; perform routine grounds keeping functions as directed and be able to work harmoniously with Park District personnel.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license.
