This is a provisional appointment. Under the direction of the Waste Reduction Program Manager, the Zero Waste Outreach Coordinator coordinates a wide variety of public outreach recycling programs and administrative tasks and procedures.
Requirements
At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, community outreach experience.
Considerable ability to direct the activities of the recycling program; to organize and attend community meetings; to work with communities and other agencies in matters concerning waste recycling.
Knowledge of social media platforms.
Graphic design, Adobe, and Microsoft Word are highly preferred.
Ability to maintain records, create spreadsheets, and present PowerPoint presentations.
Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
Flexible hours may be required as needed in support of the position’s duties.
BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.
Responsibilities
Coordinates and directs the activities of the City of Boston recycling programs and zero waste goals.
Meets with neighborhood groups to discuss the proper direction of programs, e.g., ensures all health and safety needs of the community are met.
Interacts with the public concerning the effective implementation of waste recycling.
Acts as liaison between Waste Reduction, other city departments, and private agencies in matters related to waste recycling.
Creates flyers and stickers to increase public awareness of various City of Boston recycling programs.
Posts educational verbiage on social media regarding the City of Boston recycling programs.
Monitors and reports the results of recycling programs; keeps accurate files and program records.
Performs related work as required.
Required to work any and all emergencies as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.
