About The Position

Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Zero Trust Technical Advisor with a TS/SCI security clearance to support KITS and our government customer in Alexandria, VA. This is a Hybrid position, 3 days required onsite. This role is critical in steering the DoW's adoption of a robust Zero Trust cybersecurity architecture across its enterprise. The successful candidate will be a senior strategic thinker who can guide innovation, advise on interoperability, oversee ZT assessments, and leverage deep architectural knowledge of cloud environments to secure critical systems and data.

Requirements

  • Minimum active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT cybersecurity, with at least 5 years in a strategic or architectural role focused on Zero Trust within a large enterprise or government environment.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior Technical Advisor or Architect, providing strategic guidance on complex, large-scale projects.
  • Extensive experience with the architecture, security principles, and service offerings of major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Proven track record in defining the scope for, overseeing, and analyzing the results of security assessments, vulnerability assessments, and compliance programs.
  • Experience architecting solutions involving identity and access management (IAM), network segmentation, and data protection in a ZT context.
  • Deep strategic understanding of Zero Trust principles, frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-207), and maturity models.
  • Proficiency in cloud security architecture and best practices (IaaS, PaaS, containers, microservices).
  • Strategic understanding of DevSecOps methodologies and their role in a secure enterprise.
  • Familiarity with common scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to effectively evaluate technical solutions and automation strategies proposed by implementation teams.
  • Expert-level knowledge of network security concepts and data protection technologies.
  • Superior analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to brief senior executive-level leaders.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a passion for shaping the future of cybersecurity.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a high-stakes, dynamic environment, influencing multiple priorities and projects.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CASP+ CE).
  • Cloud architecture certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect).
  • Certificate of Competence in Zero Trust (CCZT).

Responsibilities

  • Strategic & Technical Guidance: Serve as a primary technical authority on Zero Trust principles, providing expert advice and strategic recommendations to project teams and senior leadership within the ZT PFMO.
  • Innovation & Strategy: Evaluate new and emerging technologies and market trends to shape ZT strategy. Guide the evaluation and prototyping of solutions to drive innovation, aligning with DoW's strategic objectives.
  • Interoperability Oversight: Advise on strategies to ensure seamless integration and interoperability between various ZT capabilities, systems, and platforms, promoting a cohesive and unified security posture.
  • ZT Assessment & Compliance: Advise on and oversee the execution of ZT assessments, including outcome-based purple team exercises, to interpret results and guide improvements in ZT maturity. Validate that implementation plans align with DoD ZT activity outcomes.
  • Cloud Security Architecture: Provide architectural oversight and strategic guidance on securing cloud-native and hybrid-cloud environments, applying ZT principles to Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and higher-level
  • Risk Management Analysis: Analyze comprehensive risk assessments and provide strategic recommendations on mitigation strategies to enhance security controls within the ZT architecture.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with and brief cross-functional teams and government stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into strategic and actionable guidance.
