About The Position

Responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and successful implementation of the SAMHSA-funded Zero Suicide initiative. Ensures fidelity to the Zero Suicide framework, in a manner that is culturally grounded, community-driven, and tribally led, while ensuring full compliance with federal grant requirements, and alignment with organizational and community priorities to reduce suicide risk and improve the systems of care. Plans, organizes, and directs program elements and activities in the area of improving tribal infrastructure as seen in the Zero Suicide grant; develops and revises organizational programs and systems; supervises personnel for project; coordinates program plans and operations with leadership and other managers. Develop improvements in organization, problems, and personnel management. Reviews progress of service providers. Knowledge of the current literature, trends, and developments in the area of mental health and suicide prevention and intervention with children and youth. Ability to work with multiple programs and operations and to apply considerable knowledge of management principles and practices. Ability to communicate constructively and effectively with audience groups and new media. Works in close collaboration with tribal leadership, health departments, behavioral health providers, elders, youth, and community partners to strengthen suicide prevention systems and promote healing and wellness. Provides high-level of support for Behavioral Health Services, Special Projects Unit and Victim Resource Program with coordination of special projects of grants that are inclusive to community outreach, volunteer coordination, community events/outreach, and education/training programs. Assist other Project Directors, Managers, Coordinators and Behavioral Health employees to ensure grant goals and objectives are met. Independently work to resolve conflicts and issues in a professional manner per YN Personnel Policy Manual. Given the diversity across tasks and projects, Special Project Manager will be expected to be versatile and learn and to act on new information efficiently through reporting systems.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of current literature, trends, and development in the areas of mental health, and substance abuse issues with children, youth, adults, LGBTQ, veterans, and aging adults.
  • Knowledge of tribal administrative policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Yakama Nation governmental organization.
  • Knowledge of Organizational Leadership concepts.
  • Knowledge of budgeting process.
  • Knowledge and experience as Supervision and Program Management paradigms.
  • Knowledge of how to create and implement Strategic Action Planning on behalf of Yakama Nation Behavioral Health Services and how to utilize it in the budgeting process.
  • Knowledge of conducting program evaluations, measurements for research progress and outcomes.
  • Knowledge working with Tribal programs and non-Tribal organizations and articulating program needs verbally or in written format.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA standards and regulations and how it pertains to Behavioral Health.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, including ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Independent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong skills in the strategic development and management of projects including ability to develop and shift plans to adjust to rapidly changing Management and other departmental priorities.
  • Strong logical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and Skills writing, or collaborating in writing, of grants for future funding possibilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of personal integrity and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively oral and in writing concise reports, memoranda, and letters.
  • Ability to work comfortably with aggressive deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, patience, and persistence especially when working across departments.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Business and/or public administration with at least 2 years experience in business or related social science field.
  • Must have at least 2 years' experience working with grant projects, and have knowledge of working with underserved and vulnerable populations.
  • Must maintain strict Supervisory experience required with experience reflecting the ability to work with both Tribal and Non-Tribal providers.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Required to complete a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid WA State Driver's License.
