About The Position

The Division of Youth and Family is offering a paid summer position in partnership with the Trails & Natural Lands Division for the YouthCity program. This role is designed as an adult, hands-on position supporting youth workforce development through natural resources management work. The YouthCity Teen Crew Lead will work alongside Trails & Natural Lands staff and lead a small group of teens, providing mentorship, guidance, and support while completing ecological or trail maintenance work. This is a paid, hands-on outdoor position where the Crew Lead will support a group of approximately 4 teen interns while working with Trails & Natural Lands on projects such as clearing debris, maintaining trails, and supporting environmental conservation efforts. The Crew Lead will learn directly from YouthCity and Trails & Natural Lands staff and apply that knowledge while guiding and supporting youth in the field. This role combines outdoor work, youth mentorship, and leadership. This is a temporary summer position running through June 1 – July 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years old at the start of the program.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a City vehicle.
  • Experience working with youth (mentoring, coaching, group management, or similar).
  • Ability to lead and manage a small group in an active, outdoor setting.
  • Interest in outdoor work and willingness to learn Trails & Natural Lands practices.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and youth.
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to take initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with trail work, landscaping, or outdoor/environmental work.
  • Experience in leadership roles or working in team-based environments.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Trails & Natural Lands staff to complete trail maintenance and environmental projects.
  • Support ecological restoration and stewardship efforts, including vegetation management, trail maintenance, and debris removal.
  • Learn job expectations, safety practices, and workflow directly from YouthCity and Trails & Natural Lands staff.
  • Lead and support a small group of approximately 4 teen interns in the field.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to youth participants.
  • Safely transport youth in a City vehicle to and from work sites as required.
  • Support supervision, maintain safety, and manage group dynamics.
  • Communicate regularly with YouthCity leadership and Trails & Natural Lands staff.
  • Provide feedback and support youth development throughout the program.
  • Model professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and positive work habits.
  • Support youth engagement and problem-solving in real time.
  • Support workforce development activities or workshops as needed.
