About The Position

A Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialist works to provide hope, encouragement, support, self-determination, and connection to individuals served. Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialists help plan and implement supportive interactions, support groups, and activities for youth/young adults in services. A Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialist must be a young adult with lived experience who has met the criteria for a diagnosable mental, behavioral, substance use or emotional disorder at some point in their life. A Youth/Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialist must demonstrate stability in their own recovery for a significant period of time and demonstrate a willingness to identify self, at present, as a young adult in recovery.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Licensure: Obtain and maintain a driver's license with 'F' endorsement within 30 days of hire. No endorsement required for VA residents.
  • Certification: Upon hire, obtain Certified Young Adult Peer Support Specialist (CYAPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) from the State within required timeframe.
  • Experience: Past/present utilization of mental health services required.
  • Knowledge/Skills: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing/creating a recovery environment.
  • Obtain CEUs to maintain status as a Certified Young Adult Peer Support Specialist (CYAPSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).
  • Attend relevant seminars, in-service trainings, including out of town trainings, as directed.
  • Share progress and barriers with other staff providers, as applicable.
  • Organize and lead peer support activities and groups.
  • Adhere to all program standards and requirements.
  • Maintain documentation required for services.
  • Assist individuals in developing and achieving personal goals for recovery.
  • Attend and participate in required staff meetings and supervisions.
  • Assist individuals in developing natural supports.
  • Model personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness via telling of their recovery story, how needs are respectfully met, and how a belief in themselves is maintained.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to recovery philosophy.
  • Adhere to the state Peer Recovery Specialist Code of Ethics.
  • All other duties as assigned.
