About The Position

Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation is an accredited, gold medal award-winning agency with over 45 full-time professionals and over 300 seasonal and part-time staff who provide the Lee's Summit community with dozens of quality recreational opportunities. EOE Employment at LSPR guarantees the opportunity to learn communication and organizational skills, professionalism, and civic responsibility while building outstanding personal and work relationships. $15.00 per hour Responsible for teaching patron participants the basics of a specific sport or activity, providing a positive environment for participants and their parents; organizing classes and maintaining a safe environment. Job Scope: No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under the general guidance of Supervisor, responsible for creating and planning content and instruction of the sport or activity assigned; conducting classes according to the established schedule and ensuring classes are timely and complete. Responsible for preparation and distribution of relevant materials and information to participants and/or parents/guardians. Responsible for setting up class area prior to and cleaning up after completion of each activity. Facilitates environment to enhance individual and group performance while ensuring safety, in an environment to ensure safety and health of participants. Interacts with participants and parents/guardians to ensure satisfactory patron experience and address areas of concern. Prepares and maintains appropriate reports as assigned. Responsible for notifying Supervisor of any issues related to program/activity, including comments from patrons. Enforces facility rules and regulations; takes appropriate action in the event of patron incidents. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings. Ensures enforcement of rules and regulations of LSPR. Performs all other related duties as assigned. The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to communicate with patrons professionally and respectfully
  • Skills in organizing, planning and preparing materials and evaluating goals and objectives
  • Ability to analyze community needs, problem solve and implement solutions, and relate to the needs of all age groups
  • Ability to establish good working relationship with public, subordinates and supervisors
  • Ability to maintain self-control and composure and set a professional example for the staff and participants
  • Ability to understand, analyze and implement ideas and concepts
  • Skills in communications and providing exceptional patron service
  • Knowledge of administrative skills and operation of personal computer and appropriate software, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; skills in maintenance and usage of other traditional office equipment necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of sport or activity to be provided preferred
  • Basic first aid, AED and CPR preferred
