About The Position

Cayuga Centers is seeking a Youth Skills Coach to provide support and mentoring to children and adolescents in our Pittsburgh Treatment Foster Care (TFFC) Program. Under the supervision of the Program Director, your responsibilities will include meeting with youth one or more times a week to work on skill development, help them succeed at school, and navigate life challenges. The Youth Skills Coach is crucial in making a difference by providing guidance, support, and resources to empower young individuals to achieve their personal goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required with a minimum of 2 years experience in mental health, addiction, child welfare or related human service field
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
  • Vehicle Required - must be safe and dependable
  • Maintains professionalism in all areas, including confidentiality
  • Ability to observe a child’s behavior and implement behavioral regulation techniques
  • Demonstrate conceptual understanding of developmentally appropriate behavior for children/adolescents in the home, school, and community
  • Ability to establish a strong relationship with a child or adolescent
  • Ability to provide skill-building training to assist a child in the acquisition of new skills and goal achievement
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Program Director and the Treatment Team to implement the youth’s treatment plan; accept supervision well; be readily available for consultation; attend meetings; complete assigned paperwork

Responsibilities

  • Provide skills training and life skills coaching to youth in the TFFC Program who range from 0 to 21 years old
  • Provide activities to match the child’s needs, as specified by the Program Director
  • Coordinate with the Program Director, the treatment team and the foster parents to manage the rewards, privileges, and consequences associated with behavioral modification
  • Provide skills training and coaching for identified behaviors or areas that need enhancement
  • Provide skills training to each youth one or more times per week or as determined by the Program Director. These skills may include but are not limited to behavior management skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, and peer interaction skills.
  • Conduct role-playing, play educational games, model activities, teaching, debriefing, or employ other strategies to facilitate skills training
  • Receive training and ongoing supervision to implement the appropriate skills coaching sessions
  • Document each skills training session on the appropriate forms and turn them into the program Director in a timely fashion each week
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings and work in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Immediately report emergencies such as runaways, accidents, or medical problems and will document these accordingly.
  • Provide hourly respite and transportation for program youth as needed as defined by the Program Director
  • Provide transportation and supervision of family time visitation to support permanency achievement
  • Serve on the on-call rotation
  • Complete other duties/tasks as assigned by supervisor and agency leadership
