This position is responsible for assisting with the coordination and planning of community-wide, specialized youth and teen programs for at-risk populations with both group activities and front-of-house operations. Work assignments will occur primarily at the B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center but may include assignments at other locations.

  • Responsible for efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center.
  • Plans, supervises, creates, implements, schedules, and coordinates youth and teen programs and activities as assigned.
  • Coordinates the setup, teardown, and cleanup of programs and events.
  • Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling and supervising part-time/seasonal recreation staff as directed.
  • Recommends purchases of program supplies and equipment for programs and activities.
  • Prepares information and reports for budget requests.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of community needs and current trends in the recreation field to ensure the delivery of quality customer service for program and activity participants and guests.
  • Works with community organizations, groups, and individual citizens to promote recreation programs and events.
  • Ensures proper ADA accommodations are met in the facility.
  • Responsible for operating Township vehicles and the safe transportation of program participants to assigned locations.
  • Presents a professional image, in person and by telephone.
  • Responsible for detection and reporting of property and equipment defects.
  • Ensures safety rules, policies, regulations, and procedures are followed by the public and employees.
  • Responsible for enforcement of departmental rules and regulations, operating procedures, and policies.
  • Maintains accurate program, activity, and equipment records.
  • Provides information for monthly and annual reports as applicable.
  • Responsible for responding to, communicating, and documenting emergency situations and incidents, including, but not limited to, First Aid, CPR, Severe Weather, and Missing Child events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns.
  • Ability to operate a 12-passenger van equipped with a wheelchair lift, with the ability to tow a trailer behind the van as necessary.
  • Must be able to possess a valid Michigan Chauffer License within 14 days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform and possess Basic First Aid and CPR (Adult & Infant) certifications within 60 days of employment.
  • Must be able to possess Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Certifications within one year of employment.
  • Previous customer service experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with youth and at-risk populations required.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct recreation programs and the ability to effectively supervise subordinates.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Must be educated in Diabetic Care and Monitoring within one year of employment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public tactfully and courteously.
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities.
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of the facilities, equipment and supplies required by the assigned area.
  • Variable hour position with flexible scheduling based on operational needs.
