About The Position
This Librarian posting is for a Youth Services specialist to take on children's programming (including regular story times) and collection development for the Skyland/South Buncombe Library, as well as regular circulation and reference duties shared by all staff. We are a busy, dynamic branch located in South Asheville, immediately next door to T.C. Roberson High School. We consistently see the 2nd or 3rd highest circulation numbers of any Buncombe County Library, and we serve a huge range of community demographics. Our staff includes 6 team members: a Branch Manager, this Librarian position, and four Library Assistants. We are a close-knit group who take pride in forming strong team connections, as well as connections with the neighborhoods we serve. The Youth Services Librarian will also join a County-wide team of other children's librarians from across our 12-branch library system, with monthly meetings and many opportunities for advice and collaboration. Due to the number of children and teenagers who come through our doors, we are not a "hush" library, and applicants should expect an environment where afternoons and weekends are often fast-paced, and frequently a little chaotic and noisy! This position is a full-time position, with an anticipated schedule of Tuesday-Friday, 9am-6pm, and Saturdays 9am-5pm. Some flexibility may be possible but is not guaranteed, and staff members should know that schedules could change in the future as library branch hours across the system continue to evolve.
