About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Learning and Development, the Youth Services Cook will be responsible for ensuring all functional duties associated with this role are performed in accordance with established standards and local regulations. The Youth Services Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals that meet the dietary requirements of our Youth programs participants. This role involves adhering to food safety standards, managing kitchen inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, an understanding of dietary restrictions, and the ability to work efficiently and autonomously.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Culinary training or certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a cooking or food service role, preferably in a healthcare, education, or similar setting.
  • Must possess current ServSafe or Food Handler certification or be willing to obtain immediately.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the preparation of various food items, sanitation, and food storage.
  • Must be able to prepare food that is nutritionally balanced, attractive, and delicious.
  • Must be able to cook a wide variety of foods in moderate quantities following standardized/authorized recipes and be able to cook special diets and textures using proper food exchanges.
  • Must be able to plan and work efficiently with minimum supervision.
  • May be required to complete an approved sanitation and safety course.
  • Strong understanding of and adherence to food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a shared workspace and diverse environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes and dietary guidelines.
  • Ensure meals are nutritious, appealing, and meet the specific dietary needs of Youth programs participants.
  • Adapt recipes to accommodate special dietary needs, such as low-sodium, diabetic, gluten-free, or other restrictions.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and cleaning procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies.
  • Ensure proper rotation of stock to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and address any shortages or discrepancies.
  • Work closely with other department managers and Tribal administration to ensure meals meet Youth program participant’s needs and preferences.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to coordinate meal service and address any issues or concerns.
  • Facilitate menu planning and conceptualize ideas for new recipes and meal options.
  • Interact with employees and Youth program participants in a courteous and professional manner, addressing any questions or concerns about their meals.
  • Provide exceptional service to ensure satisfaction and enhance dining experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
