About The Position

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking qualified candidates for our Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA). The goal of the YPSA is to establish respect and trust between children and law enforcement professionals. Counselors will help children build confidence and work as a team while focusing on the duties and responsibilities of law enforcement personnel.

Requirements

  • Seventeen (17) years or older. Prior to start date.
  • Good communication skills
  • Must attend a temporary training academy
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • The applicant must have an active valid driver’s license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts, pass a criminal background check and subject to mandatory random drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision of the YPSA Director, the Counselor must be able to work from 7AM to 5PM (flexible hours) Monday - Friday at the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office YPSA located in Chelmsford, MA.
  • Counselors work on a contractual seasonal basis from June 29, 2026 through August 7, 2026.
  • Must work well with children in a positive educational environment and have the ability to teach 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 year old children about public safety.
  • Perform other related work as required.
