About The Position

The primary role of this intern is to support the Teen Intern Program at the Gardens of Golden Gate Park. Working in partnership with staff, the senior intern will help manage and mentor the team of 7-10 teen interns, who will be based primarily in the 2-acre Children’s Garden with additional activities at the Japanese Tea Garden and the Conservatory of Flowers. The Youth Programs Garden Intern will assist with the Bean Sprouts Family Days Program and visiting camp groups, ensuring that teen interns are successfully engaged with the family and group participants.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate in environmental studies, youth development, or related field.
  • Previous experience working with youth.
  • Ability to work with a diverse urban population.
  • Interest or experience in gardening and/or other outdoor activities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Summer Schedule: Starts June 15th – August 8th, 20 hours per week with an additional 4-hour training on Monday June 15th, regularly scheduled Tuesday-Friday 9:30am-3:00pm, with 30-minute unpaid lunches, and unpaid holidays off from work, June 19 and July 3.
  • Must be able to engage in a range of physical motions including standing or sitting at a desk, walking on uneven surfaces, crouching, digging, climbing stairs and a ladder, working with arms outstretched or overhead. And occasionally working in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to use and maintain necessary tools and equipment safely and effectively.
