About The Position

The Youth Program Specialist is responsible for classroom instruction and training. The Youth Program Specialist will plan for and deliver youth education classes, administer examinations, collect and record data as it pertains to student progress. The Specialist will integrate a holistic, student-centered approach to instruction and prepare students to become work-ready.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education. However, lived experience and international experience considered in lieu of more traditional, U.S. achieved credentials.
  • Minimum three (3) years of training/teaching, workforce development, and/or program management experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with youth ages 14-24.
  • Ability to operate a 16- passenger van on city streets and freeways.
  • Experience teaching/training students who may not have any formal education.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with students from a variety of economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, physical and mental abilities and sexual orientations and those with limited English skills.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of commitment to equity and non-discrimination in practice and execution of duties.
  • Ability to always practice confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to make good decisions without on-site supervision.
  • Must be able to meet travel requirements of up to 25% of work time locally and statewide.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred; will be required to take Goodwill certification class.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Proficient with web-based applications (Google Workspace), video conferencing, database systems, and Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction in some or all of the following depending upon need: career exploration, college navigation, soft skills, job readiness, career-specific hard skills, and life skills.
  • Assist in developing curriculum material.
  • Develop and teach workshops from approved curriculum.
  • Assist with the development of activities and/or workshops to increase parental participation in the education of the student.
  • Responsible to support, advance, and contribute to a DEI framework.
  • Collaborate with students, staff and managers to purposefully work to implement student centered initiatives.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings and develop and deliver presentations.
  • Assess each student’s stage of academic development post high-school and promote student growth by determining suitable developmental tasks.
  • Monitor academic progress of students and advise students attending college certificate/degree programs; determine eligibility and satisfactory progress toward their credentials; identify current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring) and find and connect appropriate resources for the student.
  • Serve as a liaison between Goodwill and community/technical college partners.
  • Provide case management support in developing and revising an individual educational plan for each youth and document their progress, including any important milestones.
  • Share student’s educational progress and identified concerns and needs with Youth Program Director and Manager.
  • Support with finding appropriate referrals and employment for students based on needs.
  • Coordinate with other community organizations to develop service-learning projects and other hands-on learning and work opportunities for the youth.
  • Plan for student meals and arrange special field trips, operating passenger van to drive students to and from activities in and outside of the city limits.
  • Assist with outreach to recruit youth into the program annually.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to ensure open channels of communication with parents and students are maintained during the school year and beyond.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices through awareness and observation in support of a safety culture; reports any potential hazards or accidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
