This part-time position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on middle and high school students through music and audio education. Successful incumbents will have between 1 and 5 years of hands-on teaching experience, a passion for audio, and a commitment to empowering young voices. Women's Audio Mission (WAM) is a San Francisco-based nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women and gender-expansive individuals in music production and the recording arts, a field in which these individuals are critically underrepresented (less than 5%). WAM uses music and media to attract 2,000+ women/girls/gender-expansive individuals a year to music technology studies/careers, and believes that women/gender-expansive individual's participation in creative technology will expand the voice of music and media, ensuring that their views and ideas are conveyed in popular culture. Founded in 2003, WAM has grown exponentially to serve 50+ school partners across three school districts and includes two recording studios we own in San Francisco, an educational lab space in Oakland, and global reach online to 30+ countries.

  • Deliver engaging Girls on the Mic classes to middle and high school students (ages 11-18) on a weekly basis.
  • Facilitate in-person classes, with potential for virtual or hybrid sessions based on school district policies and needs.
  • Travel between WAM's studios and office in San Francisco and partner school sites.
  • Collaborate with the program team to maintain and enhance standardized curriculum, ensuring a dynamic and impactful learning experience.
  • Tailor curriculum elements for specific class situations, fostering a personalized learning environment.
  • Attend mandatory weekly team meetings to stay aligned with organizational goals.
  • Participate in WAM staff meetings and skill shares, DEI workshops, and other organization-wide initiatives.
  • Respond promptly to emails and Slack communications, contributing to a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college coursework in a relevant field is a plus.
  • Genuine interest in audio production, music, and empowering young voices through creative expression.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to connect with middle and high school students effectively.
  • Willingness to adapt to different learning environments, including potential transitions between in-person and virtual classes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, attending mandatory meetings and participating in organization-wide initiatives.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development, including participation in the Girls on the Mic Academy sessions.
  • Successful completion of a background check, as required for working with minors.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for travel between multiple sites.
  • Genuinely passionate about the transformative power of education, particularly in the realm of audio and music, and is excited about making a positive impact on the lives of young learners.
  • Openness to learning and a willingness to actively participate in ongoing professional development, including enrollment in the Girls on the Mic Academy sessions.
  • Self-starter motivated by WAM's mission.
  • A creative individual with a deep appreciation for the arts, music, and creative expression, possessing the ability to inspire and foster creativity in others.
  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality in meeting class schedules and program commitments, understanding the importance of consistency for the students.
