About The Position

The Youth Program Facilitator for the Restorative Practices Program will deliver trauma‑informed, youth‑centered programming focused on empathy, accountability, healthy relationships, and Positive Youth Development (PYD). This role involves direct group facilitation with youth who are incarcerated at the Youth Transition Campus (YTC, formerly Juvenile Hall). The Facilitator will lead interactive, restorative, and relationship‑centered sessions that support safety, healing, skill‑building, and youth voice. This position requires strong facilitation skills, cultural humility, and the ability to build trust with system‑impacted youth. Individuals with lived experience related to incarceration, the juvenile legal system, foster care, or other systems of impact are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or 4 years of related work experience
  • At least 1 year of experience with youth mentorship, program facilitation, and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of youth incarceration, PYD, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Must be available for daily local travel (within San Diego County).
  • Must successfully pass live scan background check.
  • Available for special events or trainings on evenings and weekends.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, inclusion, learning, support, diversity, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate weekly, structured Restorative Practices group sessions for youth who are incarcerated and at the YTC.
  • Deliver curriculum focused on healthy relationships, positive communication, life skills, consent and boundaries, emotional regulation, resilience, and PYD.
  • Utilize restorative practices, talk circles, and experiential activities to center youth voice and promote meaningful engagement.
  • Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive group environment while upholding professional boundaries and facility protocols.
  • Adapt facilitation approaches to meet the developmental, emotional, and cultural needs of justice‑impacted youth.
  • Complete required documentation, attendance tracking, and evaluation tools in compliance with program and facility requirements.
  • Support ongoing maintenance, updates, and enhancements to Restorative Practices toolkit to ensure it remains age‑appropriate, culturally responsive, and trauma‑
  • Review PYD strategies, trauma‑informed practices, and human trafficking prevention research to inform curriculum updates.
  • Assist with planning and supporting staff trainings, capacity‑building efforts, and peer learning spaces.
  • Contribute feedback from lived facilitation experience to strengthen training materials and implementation tools.
  • Support partnerships with community‑based organizations, schools, and the YTC to strengthen safety net and resources to support youth needs.
  • Participate in community events, youth coalitions, and prevention initiatives to elevate the Restorative Practices Program and increase community engagement.
