The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The YPEA II hired for this position will be responsible for supervising staff assigned to both the BART Female Unit and the BART Next Step Unit. This position serves as the supervisor, assigns staff to scheduled activities, and ensures that each employee under his/her supervision carries out assigned duties and responsibilities in the prescribed manner and within the framework of established policies. This position also provides specialized direct services to individuals with extreme behavioral challenges. These services are in the form of behavioral programming, habilitative training/activities, and in assisting with health care needs to whatever degree is necessary. Training covers a broad area and includes complex behavioral programming, role modeling, on-the-spot counseling and decision-making, transportation, crisis intervention, maintaining home-like setting, and such entities as self-help, communication, activities of daily living, generalization of skills learned in more formal settings, etc. Health care ranges from minimal levels of assistance with relatively independent individuals to extensive supervision to protect individuals from injuring themselves or others. ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.
