About The Position

The Youth Prevention Educator at LACASA is responsible for implementing prevention efforts aimed at the youth population in Livingston County, focusing on issues related to child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. This role involves collaboration with local school systems, public speaking, and providing support and education to students. The position is integral to LACASA's mission of supporting victims and survivors of abuse, ensuring that youth are educated and empowered to prevent violence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or a related field.
  • Experience with child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass possible fingerprinting background check requirements.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Organizational skills and computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in the development and facilitation of annual middle and high school prevention plan to address dating violence and sexual assault.
  • Works collaboratively with select local school districts/personnel to facilitate progressive prevention services to middle and high school students as well as elementary schools upon request.
  • Responds to requests for additional youth-based prevention programming.
  • Aids in the implementation of the Mentors in Violence Prevention program.
  • Fosters the empowerment of youth voice by co-facilitating the Teen Advisory Council and annual awareness campaign.
  • Facilitates peer support groups that are inclusive and personalized as requested by school districts.
  • Provides individual support, resources, and education to middle and high school students as requested by schools.
  • Assists with annual awareness activities that promote and support survivor voice and experiences focused on domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Develops and maintains program and outcome evaluation tools.
  • Develops written reports of findings and presents to Supervisor.
  • Attends public speaking engagements, outside functions and LACASA events as necessary to promote goodwill; represents LACASA in a professional manner.
  • Adheres to confidentiality policy as it relates to clients and all aspects of agency operations; records, reports, and discussions.
  • Behaves in a manner consistent with LACASA Philosophies, Standards of Conduct and LACASA Staff Handbook.
  • Maintains a safe environment for staff, clients, and the community.
  • Networks with other agencies, coalitions and collaborates as needed to ensure LACASA utilizes 'Best Practices' in all facets of operations.
