About The Position

The Youth Peer Advocate serves as a role model to program recipients, leveraging their personal familiarity with associated challenges and community resources. The ideal candidate possesses exemplary written and verbal communication skills, is knowledgeable about community resources for recipients and families, and has computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • NYS Peer Advocate credential is required within 30 days of employment (agency paid)
  • Must self-identify as a person who has first-hand experience with social, emotional, medical, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges or has received services in any one of the child serving systems juvenile justice, foster care, special education, addiction recovery
  • Must be between 18-30 years of age
  • Driver's license and ability to maintain insurance throughout employment is required
  • Computer skills - Microsoft office

Responsibilities

  • Educate recipients about self-help techniques and self-help group processes
  • Teach effective coping strategies based on personal lived experience
  • Teach symptom management skills
  • Assist in clarifying rehabilitation
  • Attend required meetings
  • Maintain documentation/reports
