About The Position

The YM Coordinator works with refugee youth clients (aged 15-24 years of age) and volunteer mentors to support successful integration of young refugee clients to thrive in their new communities; and offers group and individual financial coaching services to clients enrolled in YM, Employment, English Language Learning and Adjustment Services

Requirements

  • University degree in social work, education public administration or related degree.
  • Experience working with youth, education and community groups, as well as diverse populations from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to multi-task.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Interfaith RISE’s Youth Mentor program, including working with the Executive Director to develop and implement an annual work plan necessary to successfully achieve goals of the Youth Mentoring program as outlined by NJ Office of Refugees (NJOR).
  • Provide case management, beginning with an initial assessment of the needs and goals of the youth, followed by an individual action plan developed with each client and their family members, as appropriate.
  • Support development and implementation of a plan to meet those needs through educational and vocational services and social services and activities, including providing opportunities for social engagement with peers; providing information about opportunities to participate in civic and community service activities; providing academic support, such as helping with homework, and assisting with school transitions, such as the transition between middle school and high school or from high school; and helping youth with career development, including providing opportunities for skill building, resume drafting, training, and educating youth on workers’ rights.
  • Refer the youth, and facilitate the youth’s access, to the relevant services and activities including learning English, math, and other skills; developing social and life skills, and health and financial literacy; assisting with connection to post-secondary education.
  • Support the celebration of the youth’s cultural heritage, while educating the youth on aspects of American culture.
  • Assess the progress of each youth toward meeting their needs and goals.
  • Develop and manage a volunteer mentor recruitment plan to match up mentors, including members of relevant ethnic communities, where possible to support individual youth clients in achieving the goals of their individual action plans.
  • Screen out potential mentors who may present risks to the youth, as indicated by such factors as a criminal history, history of substance abuse, or domestic violence and child welfare concerns, including being charged with or convicted of any crime or investigated for the physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, or abandonment of a minor.
  • Document services provided and activities as required by ORR reporting guidelines; help draft monthly and biannual reports and otherwise participate in regular reporting and monitoring activities as required.
