About The Position

The Women’s Youth Medical Lead is responsible for providing and/or overseeing medical coverage for the Women’s Youth National Teams, while establishing and implementing best practice medical processes within a high- performance environment. With the support and oversight of the Head of Medical Performance, this role manages medical operations, equipment, and competitions for the youth programs while serving as the central lead for return-to-play (RTP) oversight across club, university, and national team environments. This position ensures continuity of care, objective readiness. Ultimately, this role will help to support and prepare youth athletes to transition into the WNT healthy, resilient, and fully ready to perform at the highest international level.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Physical Therapy or Athletic Therapy.
  • Registered and in good standing with CPA or CATA.
  • Extensive understanding of high-performance sport and Canadian sport system structure.
  • Up-to-date Sport First Responder certification.
  • Experience in leadership and interdisciplinary team environments.
  • Experience developing injury prevention programs.
  • Extensive experience assessing and managing female athletes.
  • Strong understanding of biomechanics of the female soccer player.
  • Proficient in Office 365 and EMR systems.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Sport Physiotherapy Canada Diploma; HPC considered an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred; additional languages considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a part of the Women’s Medical Department in collaboration with Women’s Youth National Team Directors and Head Coaches to align annual programming and medical planning:
  • Participate in regular planning meetings and provide weekly player status updates.
  • Ensure availability and condition of medical equipment and supplies.
  • Liaise with mental and physical performance leads to support holistic athlete planning.
  • Identify YNT medical needs, gaps and proposed solutions.
  • Remain current on FIFA and CONCACAF medical policies (e.g., Anti-Doping).
  • Advise delegation members on medical entry requirements for travel, tournament participation and other policies based on Canada Soccer’s Medical Department and FIFA/CONCACAF processes.
  • Build and maintain aligned processes to ensure high-performance medical delivery pre-, during-, and post-camp/competition:
  • Medical intake, treatment, and record keeping.
  • Training and matchday medical protocols.
  • Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) with team physician.
  • Injury reporting and player availability processes.
  • Post-camp reviews and documentation management.
  • Post-camp debriefs with Head of Medical Performance and medical contract staff.
  • Provide remote monitoring and support for targeted athletes in club, university, and development environments:
  • Maintain relationships with external medical departments.
  • Monitor injury status and rehabilitation progression.
  • Communicate timely updates for RTP planning and availability decisions.
  • Maintain CSA electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Establish and oversee standardized Return-to-Play (RTP) frameworks across environments:
  • Implement objective readiness benchmarks and staged progression.
  • Align loading and performance standards with performance staff.
  • Ensure clarity on restrictions and medical clearance criteria.
  • Reduce reinjury risk through structured RTP oversight.
  • Deliver education sessions related to medical, injury prevention, and RTP topics.
  • Always act in a professional manner that enhances the value, name, reputation, and image of the Canada Soccer Association, its leadership and support team.
