About The Position

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The position provides direction for the children, ages 6 months to 18 years, in group settings and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

Requirements

  • At least twenty-five (25) years of age.
  • Current Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications for Infants/Children/Adults or completion within thirty days of hire.
  • High school degree or GED.
  • Possess and maintain appropriate class drivers license
  • Maintain driving criteria required for company vehicular insurance
  • Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles
  • Demonstrate driving skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with multiple children in a recreational setting.
  • Completion of assigned online and in-person training upon date of hire and periodically thereafter.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations and/or the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • CDA, NAC, CCP, Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in Early Education or closely related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create, implement and evaluate lesson plans for curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Actively engages children and oversees all program activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
  • Follows all procedures and standards.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents.
  • Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Oversees the maintenance of program site and equipment to ensure it is hazard free, clean and well organized.
  • Oversees the maintenance of required program records and inventory of materials.
  • Attends and participates in program activities, events, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Adhere to guidelines applicable to Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Oversees employee and volunteer compliance with abuse risk management by conducting screenings, providing supervision, training, and feedback, enforcing policies and procedures, responding to violations and reports, ensuring mandated reporting, and maintaining clear communication.
  • Drives safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state and local laws.
  • Obtains at least eighteen (18) hours of training and/or course work annually within the childcare field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
