About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Unit Director, the Youth Development Professional will implement programs in the areas of recreation, art, life skills, sports, technology, etc. (Programs that will assist academic and social success). Major aspects of planning, setup, and implementation of program activities, including identifying necessary supplies, space, and roles of other activity specialists.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of youth development; ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth through establishing positive relationships with youth participants; demonstrated caring and respect exhibited toward participants.
  • Ability to relate to the general public, parents, and Club participants in a friendly, positive, and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey Boys & Girls Club policies and procedures to participants, and to implement appropriate guidance and discipline policies.
  • Ability to organize and supervise participants to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, energy, and commitment in personal contact with participants, parents, supervisors and the general public.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • High school diploma, GED, or higher education (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum age: 21 years old
  • Documented experience in early childhood education or school-age care programs (must be verifiable via resume).
  • Three professional or personal references (non-relatives) with valid daytime contact information.
  • Successful completion of state and federal background checks (including fingerprinting), with clearance prior to employment.
  • Ability to obtain required health documentation:
  • Medical Statement (DSS Form 2901)
  • Health Assessment (DSS Form 2926) within 30 days of hire and every four years thereafter
  • TB Test (DHEC Form 1420) prior to employment
  • Completion of Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR (preferred; mandatory for at least one staff present at all times).
  • Completion of required DSS forms including:
  • Application to Operate a Child Care Facility (DSS Form 2902)
  • Non-Conviction Statement (DSS Form 2925)
  • Background Questionnaire (DSS Form 1706)
  • Consent to Release Information (DSS Form 2924)
  • Privacy Rights & Act Statements (DSS Forms 1081 & 1083)
  • Willingness to complete and maintain 20 hours of annual training, including SC Endeavors transcript and bloodborne pathogen training.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development, supervision, and staff management in a licensed childcare setting.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers and staff, and maintain a safe and developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Sitting and standing as needed.
  • Full use of all limbs and at least one hand.
  • Full verbal, color vision, and hearing ability.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to drive motor vehicle preferred with valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements activities within budget constraints to achieve program objectives under guidance of the Site Director. Performs any other duties the Site Director might deem necessary.
  • Provides Site Director with regular schedules and reports of activities. Takes direction and implementation requests from the Site Director on program development, implementation, supervision, and outcome measurement.
  • Assists Site Director with recruiting participants for the program. Focus on participant’s personal development through diverse program offerings, with a focus on increasing their interests, attendance, program participation, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Implements guidance and discipline policies. Communicates and maintains standards of conduct for program participants.
  • Recommends new offerings in specific program areas and creates and implements necessary plans to initiate new program offerings, identify prospective community resources/volunteers that could assist with the program.
  • Plans and implements special events and activities that give program participants the opportunity to exhibit their skills.
  • Identifying and implementing individualized guidance strategies based on the participant’s identified needs.
  • Develops and implements opportunities for participant’s involvement in outside educational, recreational and leadership programs and activities relating to program area.
  • Represents the organization and interprets its policies, objectives, standards and programs to project participants’ community organizations and the public. Promotes and stimulates the project participants’ knowledge of and interest in Boys & Girls Club programs and activities.
  • Helps maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility through encouraging participant’s involvement in keeping program areas clean, putting away supplies after use, etc.
  • Assists with activities in other program areas as assigned.
  • Assist with student completion and organization of assignments.
  • Maintains accurate report of student assignment and sheet completion.
  • Participates with classroom teachers to coordinate assignments.
  • Provides enrichment materials for enhancing the Boys & Girls Club program.
  • Coordinates with Site Director to implement attendance and disciplinary procedures.
