About The Position

Youth Development Professional (YDP) practice is to provide children and teens with high-quality experiences that support their current and long-term success. Staff utilize our five key elements for positive youth development, based on research that studied many Clubs’ best practices: 1. Create a safe, positive environment 2. Generate fun and foster a sense of belonging 3. Encourage supportive relationships with peers and adults 4. Provide opportunities and set expectations 5. Offer recognition to positive behavior A successful YDP will have the ability to recognize young people’s contributions and accomplishments, while working alongside other club staff.  Have the capabilities to help members reframe conflict, identify their feelings, and understand the relationship between emotion, behavior, and consequence.    Boys & Girls Club of Central Ohio offers after school and summer programing 12 months a year.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year working with youth preferred (experience may include: volunteer, summer camps, mentoring, tutoring, coaching, and teaching etc.) OR 2 years’ general relevant experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and basic computer skills. 
  • Successful completion of 90-day onboarding
  • BGCA program training
  • CPR plus, not required
  • Be on time and be ready to work at the start of your scheduled shift. Reliable and consistent attendance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently implementing core BGCA curriculum and evaluating programs, services, and activities with members in a safe environment.  YDP to member ratios; 1:15, up to 20.
  • Maintain a program area schedule that satisfies the diverse interests and abilities of Club members; ensure programming is age appropriate.
  • Contributing to a healthy and safe environment, ensuring that facilities, equipment, and supplies are properly maintained.  
  • Promote the development of social and emotional skills.
  • Manage classroom conduct and exhibit problem-solving skills needed to redirect behavior.
  • Maintain daily and monthly attendance records during programming for their own classroom. 
  • Fulfilling responsibilities and all other duties as assigned for BGCCO club location for which they are assigned.
  • Capability to be flexible, travel and work at other clubs within the market as required.  Mileage paid in accordance with the IRS standard milage rates.
  • Responsible for meal service operations which include receiving food from vendor, ensuring the meal count is accurate at point of service, and compiling the monthly meal count record and daily time log.
  • Attending the annual CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program), and once during the summer for the SFSP (Summer food service program).
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, and supervisor 1:1
