About The Position

Youth Development Professional will plan, organize, implement, supervise, and evaluate daily programs and activities for youth. The Senior Lead serves as a role model and mentor to both members and programming staff. This role involves coordinating with other staff to ensure a safe, enriching, and supportive environment. The Senior Lead Youth Development Professional is also responsible for overseeing the supervision of youth and assisting in managing the Leads and Youth Development Professionals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Previous experience working with youth is required
  • Previous supervisory experience is required
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with children, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • CPR or First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Commitment to working at least four days a week
  • Committed to working school year hours (MON, TUES, TH, FRI: 3:00pm-7:00pm) (WED: 2:30PM-7:00PM) with additional office hours.
  • Commitment to working at the Club during the summer 25-35 hours. (Open MON-FRI: 7:30AM-6:00PM)

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, on-the-spot and reflective feedback, and supervision to assigned Leads, Youth Development Professionals, and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with and provide support to teen center full-time staff on a daily basis.
  • Mentor and train new staff members to ensure consistent and high-quality program delivery.
  • Develop and organize daily programs and activities for youth that are engaging, educational, and promote positive development.
  • Heavy focus on youth engagement and youth choice for all aspects of the Club.
  • Ensure programs align with the Club’s priority outcomes and meet the needs of all youth participants.
  • Assist staff with regular programing observations in all spaces and provide timely feedback to the appropriate staff.
  • Commitment to youth safety; to include adequate supervision of youth, as well as providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members.
  • Ensures an environment that facilitates cleanliness, attractiveness and safety of members, properties and equipment.
  • Participate in training, special programs, and/or events.
  • Support the growth and development of the Teen Center and foster ongoing engagement with the Brookings community.
  • Provide guidance and support to youth with behavioral challenges, using positive strategies and individualized success plans.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents, the school, and community partners.
  • Assist with the implementation of grant programs and tracking.
  • Ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants, addressing any issues or conflicts that arise.
  • Collaborate with the Teen Center full-time team to ensure efficient and effective scheduling at the Teen Center.
  • Oversee the E-Sports Program while ensuring all members follow the Club’s digital safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as the point of contact on scheduled opening and closing shifts.
