About The Position

Bill Wilson Center provides services to children, youth, young adults, and families in Santa Clara County. Additionally, we reach clients through our street outreach and crisis line programs. Bill Wilson Center programs focus on housing, mental health care, supportive services, and advocacy. Bill Wilson Center is committed to working with the community to ensure that every youth has access to the range of services needed to grow to be healthy and self-sufficient adults. BWC's Youth Impact Partnership (YIP) is composed of current and former youth clients with lived experience of homelessness, foster care, or other systems who are interested in advocacy, leadership, and being the voice and representation of their peers within the agency and the community. The Youth Council Advisor coordinates all YIP activities, identifies and guides the advocacy efforts of YIP and serves as a mentor for YIP members.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent or life experience related to clients served.
  • Experience working with homeless and culturally diverse youth.
  • Knowledge of Transitional Age Youth mental health issues and needs.
  • Driving is a requirement of the job. Must have possession of current driver’s license, access to a vehicle and personal automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification required (or complete within 30 days of hire).
  • Fingerprinting/background check as required by the Department of Justice and/or Title XXII regulations.
  • TB test required.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Have knowledge of Internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with youth.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and leading groups.

  • Conflict management skills are desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and facilitate YIP in planning meetings and events.
  • Attend all YIP meetings and events.
  • Work closely with the YIP executive committee and have weekly check ins with YIP executive committee members.
  • Have one-on-one check ins with YIP members, as needed.
  • Create and/or identify opportunities for YIP members to develop professional skills.
  • Coordinate youth participation in panels, workshops, and speaking engagements at relevant community events.
  • Support youth engagement in local, state and federal government initiatives, policy discussions and community planning.
  • Mentorship and development – support youth members in developing leadership skills, decision making and communication skills.
  • Collaborate with staff and managers across the agency to provide opportunities for YIP members to have voice and engagement.
  • Track program budget in collaboration with the supervisor.
  • Submit all required program reports.
  • Document youth partnership activities, including schedule tracking and processing of hours for youth stipend payments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Attend agency and other program meetings and training, as appropriate.
  • Participate in agency Program Quality Improvement activities and initiatives.
  • Participate in agency Safety initiatives and proactively report safety issues.
  • Regular in person attendance is a requirement of the position.
