About The Position

The position provides safety and security to the facility through proper youth supervision. It ensures that the facility behavior management system is enforced in a consistent and fair manner. The role involves participating as a member of the facility treatment team, assisting youth with meeting performance goals, completing observation checks, and providing role model behavior to assist youth with problem solving and competency development. The position requires minimizing adverse effects of confinement by supporting the juvenile's physical, emotional, educational, and social development in a non-threatening atmosphere. The employee is on call to respond to emergencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a required training program.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Possess a valid driver's license if necessary for the position.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in various recreation programs and activities with juvenile residents.
• Teaches and supervises daily living activities with juvenile residents.
• Provides advice to juvenile residents on personal problems.
• Keeps track of the number of juvenile residents under direct supervision.
• Calms disruptive residents and may physically restrain them if necessary.
• Observes unusual physical appearance or behavior of juvenile residents.
• Detects unusual odors and sounds to maintain security and safety.
• Learns names and recognizes juvenile residents to maintain constructive relationships.
• Patrols various locations within the facility for safety and security hazards.
• Searches juveniles' clothing and possessions for contraband.
• Participates in escape apprehension and emergency response activities.
• Supervises and instructs juvenile residents in housekeeping duties.
• Ensures residents maintain personal hygiene.
• Writes comprehensive incident reports and safety reports.
• Operates the facility's central control center.
• Implements and applies the Positive Performance System (PPS) / Behavior Management System (BMS).
• Detects, responds to, and prevents abuse of youth.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
