About The Position

The Job Developer is responsible for identifying and securing employment opportunities for job seekers, particularly those facing barriers to employment, such as career transitions, long-term unemployment, or disabilities. This role involves building strong relationships with employers, assessing job seekers' qualifications, providing career coaching, and supporting successful job placements. The Job Developer plays a critical role in assisting youth ages (16-24) in achieving self-sufficiency by connecting them to sustainable employment opportunities. Reports to the YouthBuild Program Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Business or related filed required.
  • At least three years’ experience in job development and placement.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and major private and public employers in the area.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to persuasively present programs and training.
  • Experience in planning and conducting training workshops.
  • Additional experience in job development, career counseling, social welfare, and financial management.
  • Bondable.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Eligibility for Houston Housing Authority fleet auto insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain partnerships in the public and private sectors to provide career opportunities that align with YouthBuild students' interests and goals.
  • Assist YouthBuild Staff members and students in identifying and scheduling career-related guest speakers, site visits, job shadow experiences, and informational interviews.
  • Participate in the facilitation of job club.
  • Develop and oversee an internship program for students.
  • Interview students relative to job placements sought.
  • Meet with trainees regularly to learn their job and career goals or immediate needs.
  • Plan and organize job search skills workshops including interviewing, resume preparation, and other skills.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Solutions and Houston Galveston Area Council Workforce Board to market the YouthBuild program to potential employers to connect trainees to an array of employment and career readiness services offered by Workforce Solution (WFS).
  • Ensure trainees are prepared before going to job interviews and conduct follow up assessments and connect trainees with viable job opportunities
  • Network in public and private sectors to promote awareness and enhance the reputation of the YouthBuild programs.
  • Contribute to YouthBuild program refinement in ways that meet employers needs and expectations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with potential employers across various industries to identify job openings and advocate for program participants.
  • Evaluate job seekers' skills, experience, and career goals to effectively match them with appropriate employment opportunities.
  • Identify and present job postings that align with candidates' qualifications and aspirations.
  • Provide guidance on resume writing, cover letter development, job application processes, and interview preparation.
  • Connect job seekers with vocational training, certification programs, or other resources to enhance employability.
  • Coordinate and participate in job fairs and employer engagement events to create employment opportunities for participants.
  • Monitor the progress of job seekers throughout the hiring process, provide post-placement support, and address any employment-related challenges.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of job seekers, employer contacts, job placements, and related activities in designated tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, workforce development agencies, and service providers to expand employment opportunities for participants.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic employment initiatives to enhance job placement outcomes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support program objectives.
