Provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for youth basketball players (grades K-3 & 4-6) while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play based on the YMCA values of respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty. Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire if not currently certified.
  • Experience working with children and adults, participating in sports, and, preferably, coaching.
  • Knowledge of the sport and understanding of the rules of the sport.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and show enthusiasm on the court.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and have a clear understanding of the YMCA’s Mission Statement.
  • Commitment of supporting principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action to achieve a diverse work environment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more seasons coaching youth basketball.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, prepares, implements, and instructs weekly skills clinics for program participants in accordance with the best practices in the fields of coaching youth sports, while maintaining the YMCA’s mission, goals, and core values.
  • Teaches players the rules of basketball at an age appropriate level.
  • Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational sessions; provide positive feedback, constructive coaching, and encouragement to all participants.
  • Maintains working knowledge of health, wellness, basketball skills, and youth coaching trends within the industry, thereby providing effective information and support to program participants.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Able to commit to a set session schedule and attend as needed.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Respond and report emergencies appropriately according to the YMCA Emergency Action and Crisis Communication Plan.
  • Participate in the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign event and activities.
  • Attend Quarterly YMCA staff meetings and trainings, as required.
  • Fosters an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace and meaningfully participates in and lead efforts to support the Y’s commitment to equity and diversity.
