About The Position
Under the supervision of the Sports Director, the referee is responsible for officiating youth basketball games for enrolled participants. This role requires promptness and professionalism during all games and program activities, as well as interaction with coaches, other sports officials, youth, parents, and YMCA staff. The referee must enforce program rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of program participants, set up and secure facilities and equipment, report equipment problems, and ensure the safety of all members and participants. The referee is also responsible for providing a positive environment for all participants, actively encouraging participation to ensure growth and development, and exemplifying appropriate behavior as a role model for participants. Additionally, the referee must instruct and guide participants through the rules of the program, discipline children within established guidelines, and report any unusual incidents or accidents to the Sports Director.
