About The Position

Are you responsible, fun, and like to work with youth and teens between 12-17 years of age? Do you have a passion for team sports, especially Basketball? If so, please consider applying and joining our Youth & Teen team at the Greendale Family Branch YMCA! Under the direction of the Youth Development and Sports Programming Director, the Youth Basketball Coach will plan and teach basketball classes with the goal of improving basketball skill development. Essential Functions: Coach an assigned group of children emphasizing skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship, and fun Preside and responsible for class activities including all scheduled practices & games Responsible for team equipment and reporting any issues with equipment to appropriate staff Attend monthly coaches meetings & coach a minimum of one night a week (from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm) Attending and working basketball meets at a minimum of one weekend per month Creating a positive learning environment for young players and spend equal time coaching each player in the skill development classes Building rapport and sense of community & good sportsmanship with youth Demonstrating YMCA values and mission when coaching including leading by example among team parents to support the responsibilities of the referee and league leadership

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old or older
  • At least one year of experience working with youth, preference for applicants with basketball coaching experience and/or experience working with diverse populations
  • Must have knowledge and expertise of basketball and related skills
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire
