About The Position

Drives our Youth Development Outcomes through positive staff practices that create a high quality Club Experience rooted in Fun, Recognition, Sense of Belonging, Physical Safety, Emotional Safety, High Expectations & Opportunities, and Supportive Relationships. The Youth Artist Mentor is responsible to assist with delivering activities provided for tweens and teens to ensure that it is aligned with the vision and focus of the Innovation & Expression Studio. The Youth Artist Mentor is accountable for helping out with the program areas, collaborating and assisting the Youth Artist Instructor and Teaching Artist. The position supports all studio programs and curricula for all members grades 6th - 12th and assist with all special projects and supportive functions related.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to a minimum of three years working with youth and knowledge of youth development.
  • Formal training, and/or experience teaching youth while creating engaging learning experiences.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Effectively manages relationships and brings problem-solving mentality to all relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Ability to be flexible in working different programming spaces.
  • Utilizes resources for free and donated supplies and encourages donations from community contacts.
  • Commitment to social emotional development in self and youth.

Responsibilities

  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Encourages youth to express their personalities and thoughts through the creative process while adhering to dress code and other rules.
  • Exemplifies and promotes daily engagement with Harland’s Club value of Bravery.
  • Provides instruction that encourages youth to explore, understand, appreciate and apply creativity.
  • Recognizes Club members for program participation, efforts, and achievement.
  • Encourages retention and participation.
  • Adheres to the Wallace Foundation’s 10 Principles of High-Quality Arts Programming.
  • Creates an environment of clear structure and boundaries and utilizes positive youth discipline and behavior guidance.
  • Ensures a productive work environment by participating in weekly Club staff meetings.
  • Keeps supply room neat and orderly.
  • Instructs youth in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Ensures program area is attractive, neat and clean and bulletin boards and notices are current.
  • In partnership with the Studio Director, makes and/or recommends needed repairs to facility and/or equipment.
  • Participates as part of a team to run quality programs by helping out where needed or directed.
  • Participates in training/educational opportunities to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Handles other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Creative Youth Development, the Studio Director, the Music Studio & Production Director, or Executive Artist Director.
