Requirements

  • One or more years experience working with youth ages 10-17 years of age.
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training (must receive within 60 days)
  • Commitment of supporting principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action to achieve a diverse work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create & Lead Activities: Design and lead engaging, high-energy activities every week for youth at the Essentia Wellness Center after school program.
  • Teen Thrive, Downtown Duluth: Supervise a flexible, drop-in environment where teens can participate in gym time, art projects, and tech-based activities. Be prepared to adjust programming daily based on attendance and teen interest.
  • Afterschool Teen Lead, Hermantown: Lead a structured after-school program that may include themed weeks, enrichment activities, and wellness-based experiences.
  • Support special events such as Teen Nights.
  • Collaborate & Problem Solve: Work alongside the Youth Development Coordinator to address any questions or concerns from youth and teens.
  • Handle Incidents with Confidence: Manage any incidents professionally, ensuring clear communication with supervisors and coworkers while following YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Guide with Care: Use age-appropriate strategies and positive language to connect with kids and guide their behavior in a supportive manner.
  • Ensure Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all YMCA policies, including emergency and safety procedures, and complete any necessary incident or accident reports.
  • Build Meaningful Relationships: Develop genuine connections with participants, helping them to bond with each other and with the YMCA. Actively encourage youth and parent involvement and identify potential volunteers.
  • Leverage Resources: Take advantage of YMCA resources and community services to enrich your activities and bring fresh ideas to the table.
  • Champion Inclusion: Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment, leading efforts to support the YMCA’s commitment to equity and diversity in the workplace
  • Leading with Passion: Bring your creativity and leadership to develop and implement fun, dynamic programs that captivate and engage teens.
  • Inspiring and Supervising: Be a role model who demonstrates positive behavior and creates a safe, supportive environment for youth and teens.
  • Making a Local Impact: Help shape the YMCA's impact in our community by fostering meaningful interactions and experiences that align with our mission, goals, and values.
