Life Without Barriers considers that being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational requirement as outlined in section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act (1991) and permitted as a 'special measure' under section 8 of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and by articles 1(4) and 2(2) of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. At Life Without Barriers, we’re all about creating safe, supportive environments where children and young people can thrive. Every day, we work closely with families, carers, and communities to help shape brighter futures. From supporting children and families to empowering people with disability, mental health, or those seeking refuge — we’re here to break down barriers and build better lives. Join us to discover a purpose you can wrap your heart around! Life Without Barriers is proud to deliver the new Staying on Track program, part of the Queensland Government’s Making Queensland Safe plan. Staying on Track supports young people aged 10–17, leaving detention to successfully return to their families and communities. The program provides intensive, tailored support focussed on reducing re-offending and building positive pathways through education, training, employment, cultural and community connections. This is an identified role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. As a Youth Advocate, you will provide culturally safe and strengths-based mentoring, coaching and outreach support to young people, including both Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous youth, who are leaving detention and working to rebuild their lives.
