About The Position

Youth Advocates create safe and supportive environments by providing supervision, mentorship, redirection, and listening skills to youth who are healing from trauma, dealing with life stressors, and working towards independent living. Youth Advocates create a safe and supportive environment for youth who need immediate shelter or crisis stabilization due to homelessness, runaway, family conflict, school problems, trauma, or encounter with law enforcement, juvenile probation, or child protective services. Youth Advocates provide empathy, mentorship, and conflict management. They also provide coaching that empowers residents to heal, find healthy solutions, and strengthen problem-solving skills as part of their developmental stage towards self-sufficiency. Youth Advocates work as part of a team to provide consistency and support the case management in place. Youth Advocates work with the youth to ensure they understand their responsibilities within the program, provide structure, offer encouragement, and be positive role models.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 21
  • Dependable transportation for in-person.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Ability to clear a Department of Human Services background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Be a positive role model for the youth and resolve conflict in a constructive fashion.
  • Take crisis calls, conduct call screenings, intakes and discharges.
  • Support daily case management goals for the youth.
  • Teach and model the skills necessary to maintain good health through the teaching of healthy eating habits.
  • After training provide passing medication through our Medication Administration policy using proper documentation.
  • Provide concise communication via case notes, staff logs, phone contacts, resident files, medical administration forms, etc.
  • Display teamwork through supportive communication, participation in the development of case management plans and attending staff meetings.
  • Maintain appropriate involvement in daily and recreational activities with the youth through positive role-modeling, sportsmanship and safety.
  • Driving and/or transporting youth as needed.
  • In charge of meal preparation (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) using provided menu.
  • Following resident discharge strip the bed, sanitize the room, and wash the sheets.
  • Assist with maintaining the living room and kitchen clean.
  • Other duties may be assigned
