About The Position

The Research, Education, Outreach, and Restoration Senior Steward at the Younger Lagoon Reserve is responsible for coordinating and conducting habitat restoration, biological monitoring, and educational outreach activities. This role involves working closely with the Reserve Director to implement native habitat restoration projects, manage field assistants and interns, and support research and educational initiatives at the reserve. The Senior Steward plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecological integrity of the reserve while enhancing public access and educational opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biological or environmental sciences or equivalent experience/training.
  • Extensive experience in field-based projects including habitat management and restoration.
  • Strong plant identification skills and experience with biological monitoring techniques.
  • Proficient in using GPS and ArcGIS for mapping and data collection.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in field conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in biological or environmental sciences.
  • Experience with wetland delineation and songbird banding.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience leading public tour groups.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct native habitat restoration activities including seed collection, propagation, weeding, planting, and irrigation.
  • Oversee the native habitat restoration internship program and involve student interns in all aspects of the program.
  • Conduct biological and environmental monitoring using various scientific techniques and tools.
  • Support research, education, and outreach efforts by assisting researchers and students in planning and implementing projects.
  • Recruit, supervise, and train student interns, field assistants, and volunteers for maintenance and stewardship activities.
  • Document restoration efforts and maintain records of land conditions, including invasive species and restoration sites.
  • Lead educational walks and public tours, preparing interpretive materials for outreach.
