About The Position

The YWCA of Western MA is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering survivors. The YW provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Our programs and services include a crisis shelter and transitional housing for survivors and their families, counseling, SAFEPLAN court advocacy, community education, and supervised visitation. The YWCA provides services at several sites, including Holyoke, Northampton, Westfield, and our primary Springfield campus. The Direct Care Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Program Director in oversight of the Young Parenting Program, serving teen mothers and their children ages 13-20. The Direct Care Supervisor supports the Direct Service Advocate team, consisting of approximately 15 – 20 staff, to ensure implementation of the Caring Together Model as well as full compliance with DCF standards and EEC licensing requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Service Field plus 4 years experience working with youth and their families;
  • Prior supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects;
  • Experience working in residential setting preferred;
  • Experience working in residential setting and/or experience with adolescents and/or young parents and children preferred;
  • Experience with survivors of gender-based violence and exploitation;
  • Experience addressing the impacts of decisions and actions on multiple communities;
  • Understanding of both interpersonal and structural racism and bias;
  • Must possess positive energy, sound judgment, ability to work independently as well as part of a team working effectively in partnership with program staff and leadership;
  • Maintain high standard of meeting deadlines and achieving outcomes as defined by program;
  • Ability to represent agency from a management perspective in an active union environment;
  • Excellent written and organizational skills including computer skills;
  • Must have knowledge of/contacts with community agencies;
  • Reliable transportation, safe driving record, and valid driver’s license required. Must be able to be covered by the agency's insurance policy.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Director with the daily management of Young Parenting Program;
  • Complete Staff Supervisions for all 2nd Shift Staff.
  • Nurture and support a milieu approach that is youth-guided, family-driven, strength-based, and trauma-informed.
  • Regularly complete the Young Parent Living Program Assessments for new teens that enter the program.
  • Attend Monthly Agency Leadership Meetings
  • Embrace and model a positive youth development framework.
  • Work effectively with residents’ family members, peer advocates, organizational partners, and other stakeholders central to resident care;
  • Develop and deliver weekly programming and associated schedules on topics such as life skills, parenting, and health and wellness;
  • Conduct and/or participate in a variety of weekly or regular meetings with residents, such as house meetings and case reviews, and staff;
  • Provide crisis counseling as needed;
  • Share responsibility for 24-hour, on-call management.
  • Contribute to all aspects of employee recruitment and retention including interviewing, on-boarding, supervision / coaching, professional development, and evaluation;
  • Provide, facilitate, and ensure training for new employees, within the introductory period, in support of program policy and procedures;
  • Ensure staff members’ understanding of and full compliance with program policies and procedures including, but not limited to, mandated reporting, emergency procedures, transportation guidelines, particularly as it pertains to the use of personal vehicles for business purposes, and the storage of medication.;
  • Partner with the Program Director and Human Resources to identify, address, and resolve concerns regarding employee performance and conduct;
  • Engage in ongoing communication and supervision with the Program Director, including daily status updates and associated documentation;
  • Notify and consult immediately with the Program Director and/or On-Call Supervisor regarding risks and/or instances involving safety, security, abuse, neglect, and/or other critical situations;
  • Document and submit employee training / professional development logs to HR on a monthly basis;
  • Document resident activities, engagement, and outcomes and support program and outcomes reporting;
  • Complete regular compliance audits of staff and client files;
  • Serve as a point of contact for community partners, program interns, and volunteers;
  • Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and accountable work environment;
  • Assist with upkeep of facility and property
  • Maintain an 1:6 ratio during 1st and 2nd shifts while maintaining an 1:10 ratio during the 3rd shift overnight; and
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
