About The Position

This is a Part-Time CDL EXPRESS Bus Driver position for rabbittransit, involving the operation of a large black motor coach on Interstate 83, transporting commuters North to Harrisburg and South to Northern MD. The role is critical in assisting rabbittransit in meeting its mission of mobility, providing access to life-altering experiences through public transportation. The culture emphasizes innovation and stewardship. This position is responsible for operating a van/bus to transport passengers safely and courteously under specialized transportation services, specifically peak-hour commuter express trips along an established route with a limited number of stops in inter-County service. The driver must drive defensively and react to emergency situations to ensure passenger and public safety. Work includes vehicle inspections, accurate record-keeping, assisting passengers (including wheelchair securements), fare collection and accounting, radio communications, following emergency procedures, and other assigned activities. The driver must meet all attendance requirements according to bid, CBA, policy, and safety emergency response situations. CPTA is the County Emergency responder, and the driver may be available for other transportation systems as needed.

Requirements

CDL Class A or B license.
Passenger (P) endorsement.
Air Brake Restriction lifted (No L or Z Restrict).
No N restriction (a passenger endorsement restriction).
No K restriction (able to drive interstate).
Comfortable driving a large motor coach bus.
Ability to apply critical thinking and common sense understanding to carry out transportation services.
Ability to keep mentally alert and maintain concentration.
Knowledge of safe driving practices and demonstrated ability to operate and drive transit coach vehicles in a safe manner.
Must be able to drive safely and confidently in congested highway driving and congested city streets.
Ability to understand and adhere to Authority rules, procedures, directions, funding guidelines, DOT regulations and PA traffic regulations.
Good attendance.
Ability to work bid runs, variable shifts, and irregular hours.
Available for work/overtime in accordance with bid, CBA, policy and response to emergency situations.
Demonstrated customer service orientation with the ability to deal courteously, sensitively, and effectively with the public.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to operate communication and other designated automated equipment.
Ability to manage one's own time and to follow a schedule to meet deadlines.
Ability to actively listen, communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions that are given in English.
Ability to complete records.
Ability to work with diverse customers.
Must have regular attendance and punctuality.
Minimum of 21 years of age.
Acceptable driving record and background verification in accordance with CPTA standards.
Must possess valid Commercial Driver's License class "A" or "B" operator's license WITH passenger endorsement AND air brake restriction lifted, passenger endorsement restriction lifted and interstate restriction lifted that is not under suspension or revocation.
Possess current automobile insurance coverage.
Must possess a valid DOT medical card.
