About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Swim Instructors create a safe and welcoming environment for participants while instructing and motivating students.

Requirements

• At least 15 years of age
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
• Complete before first shift: CPR/AED & First Aid training, if needed (provided by the YMCA); all required abuse prevention .
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check.
• Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA training and curriculum.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedure431s, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises Assistant Swim Instructors as assigned.
• Actively participates in department and branch meetings and/or trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
