About The Position

YMCA Camp MacLean is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join the Overnight Camp Leadership Team for Summer 2025. This role involves creating a safe and engaging camp environment for children while developing leadership skills and fostering lasting friendships. Staff will be responsible for planning and implementing various recreational activities, mentoring camp counselors, and ensuring the overall safety and enjoyment of campers. Positions available include Assistant Program Director, Waterfront Director, and Unit Director.

Requirements

  • A commitment to and passion for working with diverse youth.
  • Enjoy being outdoors and are creative.
  • At least 3 years of college experience or equivalent.
  • At least 1 summer of camp experience with proven abilities in a camp setting.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older by the start of camp.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish constructive relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • Meets physical qualifications as outlined in the job description.
  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations and able to respond to emergencies.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (within the past year).
  • Ability to train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Helps plan and implement recreational activities including arts and crafts, fishing, swimming, and more.
  • Works with the Program Director to create weekly programs for campers.
  • Assists with the overall functions of the camp daily schedule.
  • Coaches and mentors camp counselors to support positive experiences for youth.
  • Enforces rules and regulations to maintain discipline and safety.
  • Monitors campers and counselors for appropriate behavior.
  • Supervises camp staff in assigned program areas.
  • Sets up facilities and equipment for activities and stores them appropriately after use.
  • Notifies Program Director of any broken or unsafe equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of facilities according to YMCA standards.
  • Serves as a positive role model for staff and campers.
  • Conducts mid-summer and end-of-summer evaluations for counselors.
  • Ensures program areas are locked and secured when not in use.
