About the position

The YMCA Afterschool Counselor at Chisholm Ridge Elementary is responsible for creating a fun, engaging, and safe environment for students in the afterschool program. This role involves leading activities, assisting with homework, and fostering positive relationships with children, making a significant impact on their daily lives.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise afterschool activities, ensuring all children have a safe and positive experience.
• Assist with homework and engage students in educational games and activities.
• Create a welcoming, bully-free environment for all participants.
• Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring.
• Communicate with parents and YMCA staff about program updates and child progress.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program space.
• Report any incidents, injuries, or concerns to the Site Director.
• Participate in all staff meetings and training as required.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Experience working with children in a group setting is a plus.
• Available to work Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
• Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within the first 30 days.
• Ability to engage in physical activities and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Must pass a background check and complete all required YMCA trainings.
