About The Position

The YAS Coach role involves providing intensive, one-on-one support to young adults identified by the Western CT Mental Health Network. The primary focus is to assist these individuals in integrating into their community while understanding their rights and responsibilities related to independent living. This position emphasizes personal growth, social skills development, and crisis response, ensuring that young adults receive the necessary guidance and support as they transition into adulthood.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred.
• Experience working with psychiatric disorders or co-occurring populations preferred.
• Ability to respond effectively to crises.
• Knowledge of substance abuse, mental health, and recovery issues.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn agency-specific programs.
• Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing is a plus.
• Reliable, registered, and insured vehicle with an approved driving record check.
• Approved criminal background check (CORI).

Responsibilities

• Interacts with consumers using the Motivational Interviewing model to assess needs and encourage growth.
• Provides positive interaction activities to enhance self-esteem, habilitation, resiliency, and social skills.
• Assists with transportation needs, including driving consumers to appointments and activities as necessary.
• Promotes age-appropriate behaviors in non-clinical settings through one-to-one relationships.
• Helps young adults explore recreational activities, career options, and educational alternatives.
• Provides therapeutic intervention and support to help young adults maintain their home or community living.
